St. Christopher's
Episcopal ChurchSt. Christopher's is on the National Register of Historic Places as one of the two remaining original churches on the Boulder City townsite. It is said that the church's first baptism took place on the church grounds at the cross on the corner of Utah and Arizona streets on March 6, 1932, and the first service to be held in the church was August 7, 1932.
A fire on Memorial Day in 1978 destroyed much of the interior of the church, but by spring of 1979 reconstruction was begun to rebuild it. Some evidence of the fire may still be seen on a few of the pews.
For a time the clergy lived in the basement of the church that is now the parish hall. Later, larger quarters were made available in the building that stands next to the church on Utah. This building originally served as housing for the builders of Davis Dam near Laughlin, NV., and at the completion of that project the building was placed in its present location. It now houses the offices of Lend-A-Hand and St. Christopher's parish.
Over the years, the women of the church have played a huge part in the financial health of the parish through special projects. Most of the furnishings for the rectory (now office), the parish hall, and the kitchen were paid for from funds raised by these projects during the 1940s, 50s, and 60s. In 1945, the women started a fund to purchase our excellent organ.
